PHOTOS - VARANASI, INDIA

I'm on a roll, so here are some photos of India so far. You can see all of the crazy street traffic but would have to be here to really believe it. There are some of the Ganges River and Gavin and I on the boat this morning as the sun was rising.

This morning we went for a 5:30am boat ride along the Ganges. It was free with our hotel, probably because we had a 12 year old rowing us along and didn't get very far! But, it was very interesting to see everyone getting going with their morning rituals such as bathing and laundry as the sun rose. The sunrise here is a bright red ball in the sky, along the River with other boats rowing merrily along. It's nice as it's a lot quieter than other times of the day.

Life in India? Well the communications are more advanced than Nepal (I had assumed) and the phones here are awesome and I've been calling home to have chats on a normal phone line that is only 15cents a minute, sweet! The weather here is warm but not hot. I bought a light scarf yesterday to keep over my chest and help prevent the perverted men here from staring at me. Although even totally covered and with loose clothing I am still a Western woman and a novelty and likely loose, apparently they get this idea from movies etc. Who knows, it's not too bad for me as I'm with Gavin all of the time.

Yesterday was bit more overwhelming. It took us about 5 hours to change money and buy train tickets. We made the walk to the main road and it was CRAZY. You would have thought there was a grand city evacuation or something, there were people and rickshaws and cars everywhere. I think I had my first "Oh my God we are in India and it's a little insane and can I cope for over 2 months?" moment. But after a few hours it passed and now I'm okay.

We are going out jewellry shopping today, they have awesome stuff everywhere. Tonight we are going to the movies to see a Hindi action movie which will be a laugh. Tomorrow (Dec 1st - wow) we will be on the night train to Agra and then seeing the Taj Mahal! So I will write again from there. Bye everyone.
