The Jewel of Rajasthan - Udaipur

We have arrived in the most beautiful city I've seen in months, Udaipur. It's such a delight, like a little Indian Venice! It is so refreshing to be in India and have something not just meet, but exceed my expectations. We are on Lake Pichhola and all of the buildings are old and charming. Our hotel is so cute, with a lovely rooftop restaurants with views of the lake (looks like a river by Ontario standards) and the City Palace. The people seem more relaxed and the streets are calmer, I actually feel like I am on vacation. This photo I took from the rooftop this morning just to give you an idea.

It's funny but whenever we arrive in a place we quickly have to decide how long we are going to stay and then book our ticket on the train within a day or two. Luckily the Indian Rail system has a website so I always look up the times and train numbers because we have to fill in a reservation sheet when we go to the station to book it. Looks like a tourist bus (ie no locals in aisles and actual legroom) can get us to Mumbai-Bombay in 12 hours instead of about 24hours and 2 trains. We are also going to have to book our train to Goa from there asap as it's going to be swamped with everyone heading to the beach for Christmas.

I am feeling better today and less homesick, being somewhere really nice and enjoying India helps. Let's hope it lasts!
