Beautiful Auckland
I feel like I am looking at the rainforest at the moment. My friend Fe lives in a beautiful house in Titirangi, about 45 mins from bus to downtown Auckland. There are trees everywhere around here, beautiful silver ferns. It's all so green, if it wasn't for little cicada's singing in the trees (part of why I feel like I am in the rainforest) I could be at home in Canada.Auckland is turning into a fantastic trip. Poor Fe had to pick me up at 12:30am on Friday, then we stayed up chatting for hours and she had to work on Friday! But we had the weekend to hang out and I enjoyed seeing the local market. My backpack will go back to Canada with a lot of new things and then old things are being chucked along the way. It's nice to pick up jewellry as souvenirs though and those are small and light! The Hugo Boss perfume I picked up at Duty Free was a bit of a treat - but after 5 months of nothing pretty to smell on myself I decided it had become more of a necessity... I'm so rational ;)
Most of my friends have their own homes now, so it's wonderful to see them all settled and happy. It also inspires Gavin and I even more to save for a condo when we get back to Banff. We would like to buy in Banff or Canmore 2-3 years after we move back, we'll see how the finances go. I think I'll work p/t for at least a year to put extra money away for that and the wedding. After 6 months travelling I think I can take it and make the sacrifice in time! I can't tell you how great it feels after 7 years of travelling and making that my #1 priority to finally feel a switch in my mind and heart, I feel ready for the next stage of our lives and really ready for it with my fiance. After working at Sunshine Village for the last 6 weeks of the season I will work f/t at the Body Shop for the summer again. I'm trying to formulate a bit of a five year plan for myself in terms of jobs and what I want in life, but nothing concrete has appeared in my mind yet. Although I am pretty sure I will make 2008 the year to run a Marathon! Gavin and I are running a 10km race called Melissa's Road Race in Banff in September. I wanted to do the Half marathon but it fills up quickly.
Today I am going downtown to the Viaduct (right on the ocean) and to have a bit of a wander. One night this week Fe, Curt and I are going to get takeaway Burger Fuel (the best burger joint around) and go down to the beach at Mission Bay to enjoy the views. Auckland has some great spots. I even got to see my old house in Parnell, agh the memories. Gavin would love the weather too if he was here, but he's off doing bush walks and hanging out with his friends Mick and Jo and their 2 little girls in Rockhampton (north of Brisbane). I will see him on the weekend when I fly back to Brisbane to stay with my friend Serina.
