Surviving the heat in Alice Springs

Alice Springs is in the desert so I knew it would be hot, but I don't think I was quite prepared for HOW hot. Yesterday it was 42 degrees C, today it's 40 but I tell you it feels even hotter than that. I had the day with Kelly yesterday and we wandered around the small downtown area, into a few of the Aboriginal art galleries.
There is also a bit of a fly problem here so a few people walk around with mesh face masks to stop them from getting on your face. I even wore one today.

Unfortunately I have picked up some kind of cough and cold and it's gotten nasty in a hurry. I have nearly lost my voice already. Kelly was working today so I walked into town (40 minutes return) thinking that the whole sweating a cold idea might have some merit. Well I don't know about that yet but in 10mins I felt like I was getting burned and was glad we weren't on a hike as we plan to do so soon. We will have to see how hot it is i think. I decided against doing the long day trip to see Ayers Rock/Uluru because it's 9 hours in one day and costs $150. Now I'm really glad as it's so hot and with also being sick. Funny how things work out! I'm sure I will survive though and I'm pretty happy air conditioning is nearly everywhere here.

Tomorrow we are going on a road trip to the West McDonnell Ranges, and might get to go swimming in a water hole along the way.
