Namaste

Namaste is a greeting in Nepali, it's used quite often here.

It's official, we are leaving tomorrow for the mountains. THIS IS IT! I am so excited. Kathmandu is another world, and then I think the mountains/Himalayas will be another world again.

Today we walked to the bus station. It wasn't as scary as the bus station in Jakarta, Indonesia and is just an extension of the streets here. So it consisted of old crazy buses, garbage, begging kids, a few goats, laundry out someone's back yard, people cooking and other weird sites. Many more photos were taken. We are taking the express bus to Jiri, it's $7 and 8-9 hours, this shaves a good few hours off the other bus. We will have to sit with our packs on our laps, otherwise they go on the roof (along with some locals) and may be picked open. Mine seems pretty light, but I need to go back to the hotel and finish packing it up. Jiri is only 200 kms away, I am expecting a lot of winding roads.

Upon leaving the bus station Gavin and I decided to take a detour. We were on a mission for packing tape, as we are leaving some of our belongings at the hotel while we are out hiking. We didn't find any, but did wander into the locals markets. This was a wonderful experience. They had a lottery in one section, giving out tvs and such. Then there was brightly coloured goods, copper, spices, clothing, all sorts of neat stuff. Since there weren't any locals in that area we were actually left pretty much alone. That was a refreshing feeling!

After a lovely Italian meal this evening Gavin and I are going back to the hotel to get ready for tomorrow, the bus leaves at 7am. I will check my email once or twice in the next 3-4 weeks but I think it might be expensive up in the mountains. Feel free to email me and I'll check when i can or when we are done the trek. If it's something urgent please write it in the subject.

Thanks to everyone so far to staying in touch. Lots of love to all.
